Core structural characteristics of helical gears
The tooth profile of a helical gear is spiral wound around a cylinder, and its teeth form a fixed angle (helix angle, usually 8 ° -25 °) with the axis. According to the different spiral directions, it can be divided into two types: left-handed and right-handed. A pair of meshing helical gears must meet the condition of equal helix angle and opposite direction to ensure smooth transmission.
Structural characteristics compared to spur gears:
Tooth profile difference: The straight tooth profile is parallel to the axis, while the helical gear profile is inclined, forming a helical involute tooth profile.
Contact method: When the spur gear meshes, the contact line is a straight line parallel to the axis, while the contact line of the helical gear is a diagonal line, and the length dynamically changes with the meshing process.
Axial force: The helical gear transmission generates axial force components, which need to be balanced through herringbone gears (double helical gear combination) or thrust bearings.
